本片讲述一批自愿报效中国战场的美国空军飞虎队成员的英勇故事。队长为了抵抗数目悬殊的日军而损兵折将，但最终为了正义与友情而冒死执行任务，为飞虎队赢得威名。
美国在参加世界第二次世界大战前，一批自愿报效中国战场抗击日军的美国空军成员组成了著名的飞虎队。吉姆·戈登队长指挥其中的一支著名的飞虎队，他不仅要处理飞虎队员之间的各种矛盾，还要抵抗数目悬殊的日军。尤其，他必须解决轻率而自负的飞行员伍迪·杰森所制造的难题，伍迪不仅想只身一人作战，而且还想追求吉姆的女朋友。
